Mucho ocurrió la semana pasada: Empecé mi trabajo como un auxiliar de inglés, fui en mi primero viaje durante mi experiencia en España este año y fui a la sinagoga para los servicios de Iom Kippur. Empiezo con mi viaje. Fui a San Sebastian en el País Vasco con mis amigas Carissa y Katy desde el viernes hasta la tarde de domingo. Carissa ha viajado allí antes, pero esta fue la primera vez por Katy e yo. Tomamos Blablacar allí por cinco horas en coche. Después de llegar, fuimos al hostal y luego al centro de San Sebastian. Andamos por la playa y alrededor del centro. Comimos pintxos, tomamos sidra y vino y vimos la ciudad durante la noche. Sin la luz del sol, sabía que San Sebastian sería una ciudad bella.
El sábado, fuimos a Monte Urgull que tiene una estatua de Jesus Cristo. La caminata allí era cuesta arriba con árboles y plantas...mucho verde. Durante la caminata, había muchas vistas bellas de la playa y la ciudad. En la parte superior, vimos la estatua de Jesus, como la estatua en Lisboa y Rio. Luego, caminamos en la playa y a la catedral. La catedral se llama Bacolod. (Todos de los nombres son en la lengua del vasco.) Bacolod era buenísima y muy grande. Me gustan la arquitectura de los catedrales antiguas, especialmente porque son más antiguas que los EEUU. Después de la catedral, fuimos a una sidrería en las afueras de San Sebastian. Vimos el proceso de fabricar la sidra y las comparaciones entre la sidra de País Vasco, Asturias y el resto del mundo. La sidra vasca es más amargo que la sidra de Inglaterra. Pero, ¡me gustó mucho!
Durante la noche, fuimos a una plaza como Plaza Mayor en Madrid para comer un poco y relajar. Las noches en San Sebastian son muy tranquilas. Posiblemente porque fuimos durante un parte del año que no es muy popular de visitar allí e no había muchas turistas, pero me gustó el ambiente de la noche en San Sebastian. En nuestro último día, andamos por la playa en la dirección opuesta que tenía muchas vistas del centro de San Sebastian. Fuimos cerca del agua, pero no nadamos. Sin embargo, en el verano, creo que es muy popular de ir a San Sebastian para las playas.
Empecé mi trabajo la semana pasada (no estoy en Madrid solo para ir a las fiestas y viajar, pero para enseñar inglés también) en el instituto. Estoy muy emocionado por este año y ayudándoles a los alumnos de todos niveles. Soy un auxiliar por clases en todos niveles del instituto: estudiantes en sus primeros años de ESO y estudiantes en clases vocacionales. Me he presentado a los alumnos durante mis primeras clases con una presentación sobre mi vida, pero ahora tendré que hacer trabajo y ayudar a los profesores. Voy a aprender más sobre la vida de un maestro durante este año.
Anoche fue Kol Nidre y Iom Kippur. Fui a la sinagoga para rezar y expiar mis pecados. Había mucha seguridad afuera de la sinagoga: la policía con rifles y otros guardias de seguridad. Me pidió mucho sobre mi vida judía, que hago en Madrid y de mi familia. Pero, me dejó entrar y el servicio estuvo muy bien hecho. Hoy, el miércoles, no tengo trabajo porque es el Día de Colon en España. Durante la noche, los españoles lo celebraron. Tuvimos una cena de celebración en nuestra casa, pero no pude comer o tomar algo. Así, fui a mi habitación y me dormí. ¡Solo pocas horas más hasta que pueda comer otra vez!

Good Morning my Readers,
A lot happened last week: I started my job as an English Assistant, went on my first trip during my Spanish experience this year, and I went to Synagogue for Yom Kippur services. I will begin with my trip. I went to San Sebastian in Basque Country with my friends Carissa and Katy from Friday until Sunday afternoon. Carissa had already been to San Sebastian, but Katy and I went for the first time. We took Blablacar there for five hours. After arriving, we went to the hostel and then to downtown San Sebastian. We walked along the beach and around downtown, we ate pinchos, drank cider and wine, and saw the city at night. Without sunlight, I knew San Sebastian would be a beautiful city.
On Saturday, we went to Mount Urgull, which has a statue of Jesus Christ. The hike there was all uphill with trees and plants...lots of green. During the hike, there were many gorgeous views of the beach and city. At the top, we saw the Jesus statue, similar to the statue in Lisbon and Rio. Later, we walked on the beach and to the Cathedral. The name of the Cathedral is Bacolod. (All of the names are in Basque.) Bacolod was great and very big. I like the architecture of old cathedrals, especially because many are older than the U.S. After the cathedral, we went to a a place that makes cider in the outskirts of San Sebastian. We saw the process of how to make the cider and comparisons between Basque cider, Asturian cider, and cider from the rest of the world. Basque cider is more bitter than British cider, but I liked it a lot!
At night, we went to a plaza similar to Plaza Mayor in Madrid to eat a bit and relax. The nights in San Sebastian are very tranquil. Maybe because we went during a low time for tourism, but there were not many tourists, but I liked the atmosphere nonetheless. In our final day, we walked along the beach in the opposite direction, which had many beautiful views of downtown San Sebastian. We went close to the water, but did not swim. However, during summertime, I believe the beaches in San Sebastian are much more popular.
Last week, I started my job (I am not in Madrid just to party and travel, but also to teach English) in the school. I am excited for this year and helping the students of all levels. I am assistant for classes in all levels at the school: students in their first years at the school and students in vocational classes. I introduced myself to the students with a presentation about my life, but now I will have to work and help out the professors. I will learn a lot about the life of a teacher this year.
Last night was Kol Nidre and Yom Kippur. I went to Synagog to pray and atone for my sins. There was a ton of security outside the Synagogue: police with rifles and other security guards. The guard asked me a lot about my Jewish life, what I am doing in Madrid, and my family. But he let me through and the service was very well-done. Today, Wednesday, I do not have work because it is Columbus Day here in Spain. At night, the Spaniards celebrate it. We had a celebration dinner in our house, but I could not eat or drink anything. So I went to my room and slept. Only a few more hours until I can eat again!
