Lo siento que no hubiera hecho un post hacía más de una semana. Estuve muy ocupado el miércoles (ayudé a mi amigo, Oscar, con su proyecto de Film Noir como un actor) y no pude hacer un post. Así, he hecho otras cosas interesantes esta fin de semana y quería escribir sobre esa experiencia en el post. Desde mi último post, he ido al Mercadillo de Tetuán, El Escorial y a la Fiesta de la Transhumancia. Además, estuvo lloviendo casi cada día de esta semana. No tengo ni un paraguas ni un impermeable. ¡Vamos a ver si podré sobrevivir a la lluvia esta temporada!
Cada domingo, el Mercadillo de Tetuán se hace en la calle de mi piso, en la Avenida de Asturias, durante las mañanas. El Mercadillo es como El Rastro con mucha gente. Se vende cualquier cosa a precios bajos. Se puede comprar ropa, fruta, plantas y cosas para la casa...casi cualquier cosa que puedas imaginar. El domingo pasado, compré un mini-cactus. Tenía uno en Filadelfia (¡que vive allí todavía!) y quería comprar un nuevo. Lo compré y lo llamé, Enrique, como Enrique Iglesias, uno de mis cantantes favoritos españoles. Enrique vive en nuestro salón, encima la mesa.
Ayer, sábado, fui a El Escorial con mis amigos Tyler, Brian, Carissa, Katy, Emma, Natalie y Heidi...¡un grupo grande y divertido! Fuimos a pasar el día. El viaje nos llevó menos de una hora en el Cercanías. El Escorial es famoso porque todos los reyes españoles están enterrados en el Monasterio Real de San Lorenzo de El Escorial. Pasamos casi todo el día en el Monasterio porque estuvo muy interesante. Hay mucha familia real enterrada en el Monasterio y hay una sección especial para los reyes y las reinas. La arquitectura es increíble y es una estructura muy grande. Hay muchos cuartos y pasillos por el Monasterio con mucho arte en el techo y en las paredes. Desafortunadamente, no podía sacar fotos del interior, pero hay muchas en la Wikipedia.
Finalmente, esta mañana, fui a la Fiesta de la Trashumancia en Puerta del Sol. La Trashumancia es cuando los pastores se mudan con las ovejas a otros lugares cuando las temporadas cambian. Los pastores trajeron las ovejas por las calles de Madrid en una ruta similar a la de hace muchos siglos. Good Afternoon Everyone,
Sorry I have not posted in over a week. I was pretty busy this Wednesday (I helped my friend, Oscar, with his Film Noir project as an actor) and was not able to post. So, I did some interesting things this weekend and wanted to write about the experience in this post. Since my last post, I went to the the flea market, Mercadillo de Tetuán, El Escorial, and the Fiesta de la Transhumancia. It also rained almost every day during the week. I do not have an umbrella or a raincoat. We shall see if I will be able to survive the rain this season!
Every Sunday morning, the Mercadillo de Tetuán occurs in the street right outside of my apartment on Avenida de Asturias. The Mercadillo is similar to El Rastro, with many people selling anything at very low prices. You can buy clothing, fruit, plants, and items for the house...almost anything you can think of, they have at the Mercadillo. This past Sunday, I bought a mini cactus. I had a mini cactus in Philadelphia (still alive today!) and wanted to buy a new one. I bought it and named him Enrique, like the Spanish singer, Enrique Iglesias, one of my favorites. Enrique lives in our living room on the table.
Yesterday, Saturday, I went to El Escorial with my friends Tyler, Brian, Carissa, Katy, Emma, Natalia, and Heidi...a large and fun group! We went for the day and it took us less than an hour to get there by Cercanías. El Escorial is famous because all of the Spanish kings and queens are buried in the Royal Monastery of San Lorenzo of El Escorial. We spent almost the whole day in the Monastery because it was extremely interesting. Additionally, much of the royal family is buried there, but there is a special section for the kings and queens. The architecture is incredible and the building is huge. There are many rooms and halls with tons of art on the ceilings and walls. Unfortunately, I was unable to take fotos of the inside, but there are many on their Wikipedia site.
Lastly, this morning, I went to the Fiesta de la Transhumancia in Puerta del Sol. The Transhumancia is when the shepherds heard the sheep to other areas at the change of the season. The shepherds brought the sheep through the streets of Madrid in a route similar to the one used for many centuries. I took pictures and videos of the procession of the sheep; you can watch a video on my Instagram.
